Why do you have a passion for a country? Why were you born there? Why do you speak the language? Why do you admire culture? These are only a few questions that can be asked when reading Nelson's admirable work. There is a deep knowledge in his texts and above all a great passion of a citizen of the world for Portugal. By chance, Nelson was born in Portugal. But what is in the subtext of many of his works is a passion that comes from our Mothers. It comes from the smell we learned when we were little ones in our mothers' kitchen and in the kitchen of our grandparents. It comes from the sea. The immense sea that is always in front of us and makes us dream of the whole world. It comes from many days of heat and blue sky but, I have for me, that comes mainly from the light. From the light when it is September, and the light flows through the walls of white towns or when we are in the field, makes the trees of imperial bearing fall asleep. And it comes from centuries of poets who in Portuguese and with writing without any excess, we are filmed in an ancestral knowledge, painful, sometimes suffered, often amazed, but always singular. The knowledge with which we look at our land. Working with Nelson was incredibly easy, communication flowed effortlessly, and he has a way of making anyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. In my case, we did a photoshoot in my apartment surrounded by several of my neon pieces, right before I took them to an exhibition. It ended up being a very special moment, one that will probably never happen again, having all those pieces together in one place.
